Jonathan Berger | Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer & Chief Investment Officer

Mr. Berger is the co-founder, Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer of Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Berger is Chairman of the firm’s Investment Committee and a member of the Risk Committee. Prior to founding Birch Grove, he was the President and CIO of Stone Tower Capital LLC, a $17 billion alternative credit asset management firm, where he was directly responsible for overseeing all investment activities including $2 billion in credit hedge funds and chaired the firm’s investment committees. At Stone Tower, he managed 73 employees internationally, including an experienced team of 24 investment professionals. Prior to that, Mr. Berger was a co-founder and partner of Pegasus Capital Advisors L.P., a special situations private-equity fund managing over $1.1 billion. He was responsible for developing and managing Pegasus’ investments in the public security markets and highly structured security investments. Prior to that, he was a vice president in the High-Yield and Distressed Securities Group at UBS Securities LLC, a principal at Rosecliff, Inc., a middle-market private equity fund, and an associate in the Leveraged Finance Group at Salomon Brothers Inc. Mr. Berger holds a B.S. in Economics with a concentration in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Andrew Fink | Co-Founder & President

Mr. Fink is the co-founder and President of Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Fink is a member of the firm’s Investment and Risk Committees. Prior to founding Birch Grove, Mr. Fink was a Managing Partner of Trevi Health Capital, a healthcare-focused investment management firm. In his capacity, Mr. Fink worked closely with the Stone Tower investment team collaborating on all healthcare related investment opportunities. Prior to that, Mr. Fink was a member of the Healthcare and Life Sciences Group at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein, where he advised corporate clients on mergers & acquisitions and capital markets transactions. He began his career as a corporate lawyer at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in New York. Mr. Fink received an A.B., magna cum laude, from Columbia College (where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa) and a J.D. from Columbia School of Law. Mr. Fink is a member of the Board of Visitors of Columbia College and the Board of Directors of the StreetSquash Organization.

Andrew Chung | Managing Director & Portfolio Manager

Mr. Chung is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of the Performing Loans and CLO strategy at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Chung leads the Industrials and Energy investments across the firm. Mr. Chung was previously a Partner and Portfolio Manager at Covenant Credit Partners, where he helped build a $1bn CLO platform. His activities included the development and execution of the investment process as a member of the Investment Committee, and conducting deep fundamental analysis across industry verticals. Prior to Covenant Credit Partners, Mr. Chung was a Vice President at Oak Hill Advisors and a Senior Analyst at Stone Tower Capital. Mr. Chung holds a B.B.A from the University of Michigan Business School.

Christophe Thomas | Partner

Mr. Thomas is a Partner at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Thomas was previously a Portfolio Manager at Luxor Capital Group, a $5 billion investment manager focused on special situations, where he ran the capital structure book. Prior to that, Mr. Thomas was a Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager of the US convertible/capital structure portfolio at Marathon Asset Management. Before that, Mr. Thomas was a Trader and Portfolio Manager at AM Investment Partners, where he focused on U.S. convertibles, and a U.S. Convertible Arbitrage Trader for Barclays Capital in London. Mr. Thomas earned a Masters Degree in Finance from INSEEC Bordeaux Business School in France.

Joseph Zupan | Partner & Portfolio Manager

Mr. Zupan is a Partner and Senior Portfolio Manager of the Opportunistic Investment Strategy at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Zupan is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee and Chairman of the Risk Committee, and leads the Consumer, Retail and Real Estate investments across the firm. Mr. Zupan was previously a Partner and Co-Head of Special Situations at Stone Tower Capital, focusing on their $2 billion in credit hedge funds. His activities at Stone Tower Capital included collaboration with the analyst team to identify and evaluate total return and event-driven investment opportunities in performing and distressed credit situations. Mr. Zupan has covered several industries during his career including consumer products, food, gaming, packaging, restaurants and retail. Prior to joining Stone Tower Capital, Mr. Zupan worked for Citigroup Investment Inc.’s proprietary credit hedge fund and Indosuez Capital’s secured debt, mezzanine and middle market private equity funds. Mr. Zupan holds a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Griffin Dann | Analyst

Mr. Dann was previously an Analyst at Houlihan, Lokey, Howard and Zukin in the Financial Restructuring Group in London. Mr. Dann holds a B.S. in Economics with a Concentration in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, cum laude.

Nicholas Deflorian | Senior Analyst

Mr. Deflorian is a Senior Analyst at Birch Grove Capital. He previously served as an Analyst at Clinton Group, a multi-strategy hedge fund, where he focused on event-driven investments across equities and credit. Prior to Clinton, Mr. Deflorian was a member of the Financial Sponsors Group at Stifel, where he helped advise clients on M&A and capital markets transactions. Mr. Deflorian holds a B.A. from the University of Michigan.

William Cantwell | Operations

Mr. Cantwell was previously a Fund Accountant at Bank of New York Mellon. At Bank of New York, Mr. Cantwell had broad responsibility and oversight for the accounting requirements of multiple hedge fund clients including booking all trade activity and reconciliation, preparing year-end financial reporting and managing investor allocation files. Mr. Cantwell holds a B.S. in Management from Bentley University.

Guy Shapira | Partner & Portfolio Manager

Mr. Shapira is a Partner and Portfolio Manager of the Cross-Asset Absolute Return Strategy at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Shapira is member of the firm’s Investment and Risk Committees, and leads the Healthcare and TMT investments across the firm. Previously, Mr. Shapira was a Principal at Trevi Health Capital, a healthcare-focused investment management firm. Mr. Shapira co-managed the long/short equity and special situations portfolio and had various investment and portfolio responsibilities in the private equity funds. Prior to that, Mr. Shapira was a member of the financials sponsors and healthcare groups at Goldman Sachs International, where he helped advise clients on mergers & acquisitions and leveraged buyouts, as well as proprietary principal investment opportunities. Mr. Shapira received a BSc. in Biotechnology, First Class honors, from University College London and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jordan Nuni | Analyst

Mr. Nuni was previously an Analyst at WMD Capital Markets, a distressed debt fund, where he helped manage a portfolio of non-performing residential loans. Prior to that, Mr. Nuni was an Analyst at Goldman Sachs where he focused on Secondary CLO Trading and Cash Equities Trading. Mr. Nuni holds a B.A. from the University of California Santa Barbara with Dean’s Honors and was a member of the NCAA Division I Men’s Volleyball team.

Leath Bing | Senior Analyst

Mr. Bing is a Senior Analyst at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Bing was previously an Analyst at Apollo Global Management LLC, focused on cross-capital structure energy investing, hedging, and derivatives. Prior to Apollo, Mr. Bing was a primary risk manager and Analyst for Stone Tower Capital. Mr. Bing holds a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Scott Cragg | Managing Director & Portfolio Manager

Mr. Cragg is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager of the Private Credit strategy at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Cragg was previously a Managing Partner of Trevi Health Capital, a healthcare-focused investment management firm. Mr. Cragg has over 17 years of investment and advisory experience in the healthcare sector. Mr. Cragg was previously an investment banker at Groton Partners, a merchant banking firm and, prior to that, a member of the Healthcare & Life Sciences Group at Wasserstein Perella and Prudential Vector Healthcare. Mr. Cragg received a B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas.

Mathew Burke | Trader

Mr. Burke is a Trader at Birch Grove Capital. Mr. Burke was previously the Trader at Fifth Street Asset Management LLC, focused on sourcing investment opportunities and secondary execution. Prior to Fifth Street, Mr. Burke was the Senior Analyst for the GE Capital Markets Sales & Trading Desk. Mr. Burke holds a B.A. in Economics from Lafayette College.

Nick Barquin | Director, Marketing & Investor Relations

Mr. Barquin was previously a Managing Director in the capital markets group at Colliers International, where he was involved in over $7.5 billion of capital markets transactions. He has also been a principal in investment funds and private equity transactions in the real estate, consumer products, and retail industries. Mr. Barquin began his career as an Associate at Eastdil Secured. Mr. Barquin holds an MS from Columbia University and BA from Trinity College with Honors.

Todd Berry | Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Berry was previously a Controller at Apollo Global Management, where he was responsible for the financial reporting of various corporate credit and structured credit funds. Prior to that, Mr. Berry was a Manager of Fund Accounting at Stone Tower Capital, where he was responsible for oversight of accounting and operations for various credit-based hedge funds, managed accounts and CLOs. Mr. Berry graduated from St. John’s University with a Bachelors of Science in Finance.

Carrie Phelan | Operations

Mrs. Phelan was previously a Vice President at U.S. Bank, N.A. where she built and strengthened relationships with major investors across securitized products for the Bank. Prior to that, Mrs. Phelan was Analyst at Apollo Global Management, where she was responsible for the daily reporting of both corporate credit and structured credit funds. Before that, Mrs. Phelan was working in the Middle Office at Stone Tower Capital, where she was responsible for reporting and operations for various credit-based hedge funds, managed accounts and CLOs. Mrs. Phelan graduated from Boston University with a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering.

Rodd Evonsky | Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Evonsky was previously the Director of Special Projects at Apollo Global Management, where he oversaw the transition, financial reporting and tax compliance of Stone Tower Capital. Prior to that, Mr. Evonsky was the Controller at Stone Tower Capital, where he managed all aspects of the firm’s accounting, finance and tax compliance. Prior to Stone Tower Capital, Mr. Evonsky held various roles in accounting and finance within other investment management companies. Mr. Evonsky graduated cum laude from Babson College with a BS in Accounting and Business Administration.

Kerwin Kinsale Chief | Technology Officer

Mr. Kinsale was previously the Director of Technology at Stone Tower Capital, where he was responsible for the implementation and development of internal technology systems. Prior to that, Mr. Kinsale worked at Hicks Muse Tate and Furst, Inc. in their New York office as a Network Systems Administrator. Before that Mr. Kinsale worked with 4G Data Systems, a technology integrator for financial firms in their network department as their network systems manager. Mr. Kinsale is Microsoft, Novell, and Cisco trained and holds a computer engineering technology associate degree from New York City College of Technology.

Erica Platt | Office Manager

Mrs. Platt was previously the Executive Assistant to the President/CIO and Director of Investor Relations at Stone Tower Capital. Prior to Stone Tower Capital, Mrs. Platt was the Office Manager at Oracle Advisory Services, a boutique consulting firm to high net worth individuals. Mrs. Platt holds a B.A. in Telecommunications from the University of Indiana.

Emily Rupert | Executive Assistant

Ms. Rupert was previously an executive assistant at Trevi Health Capital, a healthcare-focused investment management firm. Mr. Rupert holds a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore.

Caroline Slattery | Investor Relations

Mr. Slattery holds a B.S. in Pure Mathematics from Southern Methodist University.

Steven Gilbert | Vice Chairman

Mr. Gilbert was previously a Vice Chairman of Stone Tower Capital. He is also Chairman of the Board of Gilbert Global Equity Partners, L.P., Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of MidOcean Capital Partners, Senior Advisor to Continental Grain and Chairman of CPM Holdings, Inc. Mr. Gilbert has 40 years of experience in private equity investing, investment banking and law. Prior to that, Mr. Gilbert was the Chairman of SUN Capital Partners (USA), the Founder and Managing General Partner of Soros Capital L.P., the principal venture capital and leveraged transaction entity of the Quantum Group of Funds, and a principal advisor to Quantum Industrial Holdings Ltd. Mr. Gilbert was the Managing Director of Commonwealth Capital Partners, L.P., a private equity investment firm, and the founder and Managing General Partner of Chemical Venture Partners (the predecessor to J.P. Morgan Capital Partners). Mr. Gilbert was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1970 and practiced law at Goodwin Procter & Hoar in Boston, MA. Mr. Gilbert is a member of the Writer’s Guild of America (East), the Council on Foreign Relations, a Trustee of the New York University Medical School and a member of the Board of Governors of the Lauder Institute. He received a B.A. from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania (1967), a J.D. from the Harvard Law School (1970) and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Graduate School of Business (1972).

Steven Kotler | Vice Chairman

Mr. Kotler was previously a Vice Chairman of Stone Tower Capital. For 25 years, Mr. Kotler was with the investment banking firm of Schroder & Co. and its predecessor firm, Wertheim & Co., where he served in various executive capacities including Chief Executive Officer & President; and, Global Head of Investment and Merchant Banking. Mr. Kotler has served on the Board of Directors of numerous public and private companies. Mr. Kotler is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations; and was Council President of The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC. Mr. Kotler has previously served as a Governor of the American Stock Exchange, The New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce’s Infrastructure and Housing Task Force, The Board of Trustees of Columbia Preparatory School; and, the Board of Overseers of the California Institute of the Arts. Mr. Kotler is a graduate of the City College of New York (1967).
